TOCNET-G4 was selected by the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) as the intercommunications system (ICS) for their fleet of new combat vehicles, the Ground Mobile Vehicle (GMV) 1.1 and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). SOCOM chose G4 above all the competitors based on its Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C) reductions, as well as several functionality enhancements that are 10 years ahead of other systems.
Additionally, TOCNET-G4 was deemed the intercom of choice based on a maritime intercom trade study and user evaluation performed by the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Special Communications Mission Solutions (SCMS). The primary discriminating factors in this study were TOCNET-G4’s SWaP-C, usability and remote radio control interface capabilities including SOF-specific radio firmware and operations.
In the trade study, TOCNET-G4 received the top rating overall and significantly outperformed Harris’s 7800I, Telephonics’ NETCOM-V, and Gentex’s LViS offerings in all categories. The NAWCAD/SCMS study provided the necessary input for the selection of the TOCNET-G4 intercom system to be used in SOCOM’s next-generation combatant craft platforms, the Combatant Craft Assault (CCA), Medium (CCM) and Heavy (CCH).
TOCNET-G4 received the highest rating in all seven categories:

- Operations in Adverse Conditions

- Best Overall Solution
The findings were even more relevant because of the identities of the evaluators. In all, seven members of the combatant craft special boat team (SBT) community evaluated TOCNET-G4 and the other systems. The participants consisted of communicators, coxswains, gunners, and an officer-in-charge (OIC) with numerous craft and operational years of experience in combat. All of the evaluators gave TOCNET-G4 the highest marks in every category. This shows that TOCNET-G4 provides the capabilities, features, and intuitive operation that warfighters need in the harshest of combat environments.
